Getting Ready

Those who've read some or all of my blog of my motorcycle trip to the Texas Panhandle and the associated territory last October (2010) may recognize the title of this entry. I think I started getting ready for that trip about a month before rolling down the driveway of 7 Cedar Road. I guess I'm a little more relaxed about this trip, as I figure I'll head out on Sunday 4/3 since there's some snow coming tomorrow night. I haven't packed anything yet, but know there will be less stuff traveling with me. I do have a new still camera, and this will join the Nikon D300 SLR which rides on the bike. The new camera will be in my jacket.

This trip will be different. My goals are as follows: 1) get to Greer, SC by Saturday, April 9 to take a one-day, on-road motorcycle training course at the BMW Performance Center there; 2) get to DeFuniak Springs, FL to see John Danilow, an old Navy pal (I haven't seen him since 1969); 3) get to Pensacola, FL to see old friends Donna and Pat Quinn (friends from the late 1960s), and to look around my old haunts there; 4) get to Galveston, TX to see old FBI-Boston pal Walt Hansen there, and 5) get to Fort Worth to see BMW-riding pal Mike Valentin there. After that, my goal is to get back home by some route which will take me through Remsenburg, NY to see BMW-rider David Nijankin there. I know it sounds a little tiring, but I can tell you that when I did this last year, the intensity of the experience overcomes all that. An adrenaline junkie likes the intensity.

As I did last trip, I'll try to engage people I meet in conversation, and see what they're feeling about life, etc. During that prior jaunt, some followers of my blog asked for more information on regional cuisine, and others seemed to like my comments about economic and political conditions and those will continue. If any reader has specific requests, please send them to me, and I'll do what I can to accommodate.
